Egyptian Art

For Egypt week we had to choose a something like a god and draw it on A3 paper and draw hieroglyphics around it. This is a drawing is of Osiris the God of the afterlife, death, life and resurrection he is surrounded by hieroglyphics. I chose to do this God because he looks really cool and not too hard to draw/dye. It was really fun to draw because I am not a very good artist, some bits where challenging but I got a more experienced artist to give me some pointers especially with getting the feet the right size to go with the rest of the body. I like this drawing because the hieroglyphics weren't too big so they looked a lot less chunky and a bit better.

Ancient Egypt

This term our topic was Ancient Egypt. We learned about lots of thing like mummies. We learned that the Egyptians stuck a hook type thing us dead peoples noses and into the brain and whisked the brain until it was liquid and it poured out the nose they then stuffed where the brain would be with sawdust. They removed all the organs except the heart because they thought it was the source of wisdom, emotions and memory and the kidneys because it was too hard to get to. The rest of the organs got put in separate jars.

We also had to make a double page of information about a chosen topic, I picked pharaohs. A pharaohs is the ruler or king of Egypt. The pharaohs had many duties like praying and offering stuff to their god. We put into groups based on what we did for our double page spread, I was with Sharon, Imogen and Sam V. We had to make a power point on pharaohs and an activity with the information that was in the power point. For our activity we did a game show called 'who wants to be an Egyptianaire'. This topic was really fun.

Nairnville

This term we went to Nairnville every Thursday and we did gymnastics. We had our last week of gymnastics for the year this week. This year they got a really cool blowup mat, it's really fun to bounce on and run on. Over the last six weeks I think my balancing has improved a lot. We did a lot of fun stuff like hand stands, trampoline and we learnt a routine on bouncy mat. My favourite part would have to be either the trampoline or the mat. Some bits were fun but I'm looking ford to doing sport next week.

How the gymnastics sessions worked:
First we got our shoes off. Then we did a warm up game like octopus or ship to shore. We then did stretches, both standing up and sitting down. Next they got us into three groups of about nine or ten. After we walk to a course with either our teacher or one of the insructors. The adult leading the course explains all the things we have to do. Then we go round the course doing everything for about 12 minutes. When 12 minutes is up we get into a line and walk to the next adult. We do this three times, once the final buzzer goes of we go to the main part of the hall and play a warm down game like snakes or on the line off the line. We then get our shoes back on and leave.

Acient Egypt

For our topic this term we are doing ancient Egypt. On Tuesday we had reading groups and we learnt about mummies. We learnt that they put a stick up dead people’s noses and whisked their brains out. To get the organs out they cut a hole in the hip and pulled out everything except they heart because they thought it was an important thing to have so you could go to afterlife and the kidneys because it was too hard to get to.

The way that I learn things like this is either reading it or discussing it in a group. I think I’ll remember thing because it is super disgusting and interesting. The way I remember thing is talking about it with other people occasionally.

What did you learn?
